Welcome to the final week! This week isn't for learning something new — it's a stage to pour eight weeks' arsenal onto one track.

Let's take stock of the arsenal. Month 1 — the right-hand 16th motor (W1), left-hand ghost notes (W2), accents (W3), the E9 one-chord jam (W4). Month 2 — three-string triad cutting (W5), single-note lines (W6), staccato and shuffle (W7). Each is a tool for making rhythm. This week you pull them out and assemble your own groove.

The challenge's backing track is an empty track of just E funk, BPM 78, bass and drums. Filling that empty space with your guitar is this week's mission. Today, pick from the "option cards" you can lay on top. Go with chord cutting? Or a single-note line? Play both cards below and feel by ear which fits the track better.

There's no right answer. You "choosing" all week is the point. Which card to use, where to cut and where to add a line — all your choice. Today, experiment freely with both cards over the track and just grab the sense of "ah, this suits this track." The finish line of two months is in sight. Just getting here is remarkable — now it's time to weave what you learned into a tune of your own.

Card A — cutting groove (2 bars). A chord-based groove of a three-string triad with ghosts and accents. A 'verse'-like part.

BPM 78. Over the track 4×. Feel whether the cutting's crisp shimmer suits the track.

Card B — single-note riff (2 bars). A single-note line on the 5th/4th strings. A 'riff'-like part locking with the bass.

BPM 78. Over the track 4×. Feel the line converse with the bass. Compare with Card A.

Today's practice

0–10 min · Warm-up BPM 60–70. Lightly run through the eight weeks' tools (cutting, single notes, staccato, etc.) to loosen up.

10–20 min · Brain training (today's target = choosing a card) Listening to the challenge track (E, 78), imagine which fits — Card A (cutting) or Card B (line). Sketch the song structure.

20–40 min · Real groove (Cards A·B / BPM 78) Alternate Card A (cutting) and Card B (single-note) over the track 4× each. Pick by ear which fits the track.

40–50 min · Record & reflect (recommended) Record each card and check: which suits the track / does the beat lock / note what to develop over the next three days.

Done when: you've taken stock of the arsenal and, playing both the cutting and single-note cards over the track, can set a direction.

  • Sticking to one card. Experimenting with both makes the tune richer. Cutting for the verse, a line for the hook.
  • Not listening to the track. Without hearing the backing your groove floats. Hear the bass and drums first.
  • Perfectionism. Today is experimentation. Just set a direction. Completion is all week.
  • Greed for speed. If 78 is fast, go slower. Locking first, speed later.
