Bass Guitar: Your First 30 Days
For absolute beginners who bought a bass but have no idea where to start
This is a 4-week hand-building course for someone who just picked up a bass for the very first time. Instead of flashy playing, you'll build one accurate root note that locks in with the drums, step by step. You learn 4- and 5-string together, so whichever bass you choose is fine. Sore fingertips are completely normal — calluses form in just a few days.
Week 1 makes a clean low note with two-finger technique and posture; Week 2 teaches the muting that silences the strings that shouldn't ring. Week 3 lays eighth-note roots on the kick drum to build groove, and Week 4 completes a real bassline — roots plus fifths and octaves — that you record.
Just 30 minutes a day, and each one ends with a result you can check against a metronome or drums. The goal isn't to play well — it's to not break up with your instrument. Four weeks in, you'll meet a version of yourself who holds down the backbone of a song from start to finish.
